Professor Guo Wanlin gets appointed as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

On November 28th, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) officially announced the name list of 61 new academicians. Professor Guo Wanlin was selected as one of the academicians of CAS, while Professor Wu Guanghui, an alumnus of NUAA, was selected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). NUAA has cultivated altogether of 14 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Selection as a CAS or CAE academician is a lifetime honor. It is the highest academic title authorized by the state to the scientists in science & technology and engineering.

Professor Guo Wanlin is the director of NUAA's Institute of Nanoscience and the deputy director of State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Structures. He successfully established a theoretical system of physics and mechanics of low-dimensional material structure, electromagnetic - thermal coupling. In the macroscopic engineering environment.

Prof.Guo is a pioneer in finding the electrodynamics effect of flow - solid interface boundary motion, airstream, and evaporation which exceed the classical double - layer electrodynamics theory. Prof. Guo has also established the three-dimensional fatigue fracture theory of aircraft structure and acquired the key technology of developing the three-dimensional damage tolerance of aircraft structure, the results of which were systematically used in aircraft model development.
